This custom fountain pen is made out of fully stabilized, Nebraska corncob, and is sure to impress. To make a glass smooth pen barrel out of corncob, I first had to vacuum stabilize it, to harden any weak spots. Then I turn the barrel on my wood lathe, down close to final size. At this point it is necessary to fill all of the voids that remain in the corncob, with Cyanoacrylate. Then it is time for the final turning to size, and finishing. It is quite a bit more work, than a standard wood, or acrylic pen, but in the end, the outcome is pretty outstanding. The magnetic cap is postable (attaches to the back of the pen while writing), which provides a nice balanced feel, or the cap can be left off for a lighter feel.
When you use a custom made writing instrument, it conveys a message. Much like jewelry, watches, or eyeglasses, custom pens allow you express yourself with style and class. If someone hands you a $.50 pen to use, for whatever the occasion, it is forgettable. If someone hands you a custom writing instrument like this, it is a memorable occasion. What image, of yourself, do you want to convey?
